Midnight Rerun — Run TikTok Live From a Clip, Not a Camera

How Midnight Rerun lets a recorded clip act as your phone's camera during a Live — WebUSB push from browser, no server upload, license activated by device serial. Plus what it's for, what it's not, and how we price it.

Midnight Rerun is a rental service that turns a video clip into your phone's camera feed during a Live. You push clips from a browser to the phone over a USB cable, the phone plays them like the camera is seeing them, and TikTok streams the result. Built for BoxPhone operators who want a channel to stay on without sitting in front of it.

Why we built it

TikTok's algorithm rewards Lives that just started, way more than VODs that have been sitting there. The annoying side effect: if your channel has nobody Live at 3 AM, you lose the boost. But who wants to sit in front of a phone at 3 AM?

Midnight Rerun takes your existing clips — say, the highlight reels you already made — and plays them in front of your phone's Live camera. The Live is real (the phone is really streaming), but the picture is a clip on loop.

How the push actually works

Normally getting a video onto an Android phone means an ADB command line. We didn't want operators to learn that. So we did something unusual — we use WebUSB.

  1. Plug the phone into your PC with a USB cable. That's it for setup.
  2. Open our Studio page in Chrome or Edge. The browser asks permission to talk to the phone.
  3. Drag your clips into the page. The browser pushes them through the cable straight into the phone's Movies/Rerun folder.
  4. The APK on the phone is watching that folder. The moment a new clip lands, it queues up. No start button. Push equals play.

Two practical things this design buys you: nothing of yours touches our server, and you don't have to install anything on your PC. A browser tab is the whole interface.

What plays, what loops, what gets deleted

The default mode is loop — the queue plays in order, then starts over. You drop new clips in, they go to the end of the line. You remove a clip from the source folder, the phone deletes it on the next sync. Mirror, both ways.

Phones don't have unlimited storage. Once a clip finishes its lap, the default is to delete it. That keeps the device clean even if you forget to manage it. You can turn this off if you want to keep clips on-device.

License — one device, one slot

When you rent, your license is bound to a phone's serial number, not your account. That stops second-hand resale of the APK. If you swap phones, you tell us, we migrate the license.

Your quota is playback minutes — but only the minutes that actually played. The clock doesn't tick while paused. A loop ticks again because the clip plays again. Honest billing.

You don't need to watch the dashboard

We wire your Telegram bot into the system. When a session starts, when a clip ends, when your quota is running low, when license is about to expire — your phone buzzes. The dashboard exists, but most of our customers only open it on Sunday to top up.

Honestly, when not to use this

If your Live needs real-time interaction with viewers — answering questions on screen, showing the actual product live — Midnight Rerun is the wrong tool. Use the real camera. This is for channels that just need to stay on between human-driven sessions.

It pairs well with Legion Control: humans run Lives in primetime, Midnight Rerun covers the dead hours.

FAQ

01Is this allowed? Will TikTok ban me?+

It depends on the platform's terms at the time you use it. The hardware does what it does — it shows a clip to TikTok's camera. Whether your specific use is within a platform's rules is your call, not ours. We sell the tool, not a guarantee.

02Does my video get uploaded to your server?+

No. The whole point of WebUSB push is that your file goes from your browser straight into your phone via the USB cable. Our cloud is the control plane — it knows your phone exists and how much you've used. It never holds your bytes.

03Which browsers work?+

Chrome and Edge only. WebUSB is a Chromium-only feature. Safari and Firefox will not work for the push step.

04What happens if a clip ends in the middle of a Live?+

The default is loop. Your queue plays in order and starts over when it reaches the end. You can switch to play-once if you'd rather have the Live end cleanly when the last clip finishes.

05How is rental billed?+

By playback minutes that actually played. Pause doesn't count. Loops do — each lap of the loop costs another lap of time. Top up like phone airtime; we send a Telegram nudge before you run out.

06Why rental instead of buying the APK?+

Because Android changes underneath us. Every new One UI release tweaks the camera HAL and we patch the module to keep up. With rental, you always get the working version. With a one-time purchase, you would get stuck on launch day's build.
